Different wavelengths of light behave differently as they travel through skin, with some wavelengths interacting closer to the surface and others traveling farther into the tissue.
That difference is what makes wavelength selection so important.

Light doesn't interact with every layer of skin in the same way.
As wavelength changes, so does the way light travels through tissue. Shorter wavelengths are absorbed closer to the surface, while longer wavelengths can travel farther before being absorbed.
